H1N1 etc


Swiss Pharmaceutical Company NOVARTIS AG said yesterday it has successfully produced a first batch of Swine Flu Vaccine weeks ahead of expectation. The vaccine was made in cells, rather than grown in eggs, as is usually the case with vaccines, the company said The announcement comes a day after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared swine flu a PANDEMIC. Swine flu also known as Influenza A (H1N1) is now formally a pandemic (June 11, 2009), meaning the spread considered unstoppable. The move indicates that a global outbreak is underway. Since it was first detected in April in Mexico and the United States, swine flu has reached 74 countries, infecting 29,000 people. WHO Chief Dr. Margaret Chan made the long awaited declaration after the UN agency held an emergency meeting with flu experts and said she was moving to phase 6 – the agency’s highest alert level – which means a pandemic is underway.

B. DOH Chief calls for sobriety (Philippine Star, June 13, 2009)

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III yesterday appealed for sobriety after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared on June 11, 2009 a global pandemic of influenza A (H1N1). Secretary Duque call on everyone’s sobriety, cooperation and understanding, as together the nation faces this unique and extra ordinary challenge. As WHO has emphasized, the goal in any pandemic is to save many lives, reduce deaths and minimize the impact of the pandemic on society. Meanwhile, Education Secretary Jesli Lapus expressed confidence that there will no outbreak of Influenza A(H1N1) in schools in the country, citing health programs and joint efforts with other government agencies.

C. Diabetics Need Not Lose A Leg To Get Healed

Diabetics need not lose a leg and pay high price to get their wounds healed. This is according to Dr. Valentin Yabes in a recent 152nd General Assembly of the Foundation for Upgrading the Standard of Education (FUSE) held at Orient Tower Condominium at Roxas Blvd., Manila Dr. Yabes said the treatment of non-healing wounds of diabetics is a big problem in the country because there are 3.36 million Filipinos who have diabetes. He said the amputation is not only costly but unnecessary because diabetics with wounds can be treated with laser bio-resonance treatment. This is a painless, non-surgical, cost effective medical treatment which produces very attractive results. LASER, the acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation is now used medically for precision surgery.

D. Some Health Habits to be maintained to keep healthy

1. Wash your hands with soap before and after food intake.

2. Drink at least 8 glasses everyday

3. Use handkerchief or tissues when coughing and sneezing

4. Isolate and rest yourself when having fever, colds and coughs to avoid contamination to other members of the family

5. Maintain vitamins to develop effective resistance to diseases

6. Always keep your surroundings (outside and inside) clean for a healthful living

7. Consult a doctor if fever, colds and other symptoms persists

8. Have a complete vaccination on all kinds of diseases
