H1N1 etc

Swiss Pharmaceutical Company NOVARTIS AG said yesterday it has successfully produced a first batch of Swine Flu Vaccine weeks ahead of expectation. The vaccine was made in cells, rather than grown in eggs, as is usually the case with vaccines, the company said The announcement comes a day after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared swine flu a PANDEMIC. Swine flu also known as Influenza A (H1N1) is now formally a pandemic (June 11, 2009), meaning the spread considered unstoppable. The move indicates that a global outbreak is underway. Since it was first detected in April in Mexico and the United States, swine flu has reached 74 countries, infecting 29,000 people. WHO Chief Dr. Margaret Chan made the long awaited declaration after the UN agency held an emergency meeting with flu experts and said she was moving to phase 6 – the agency’s highest alert level – which means a pandemic is underway.

C. Diabetics Need Not Lose A Leg To Get Healed

(Philippine Star – Health and Medicine Section : April 27, 2009)

Diabetics need not lose a leg and pay high price to get their wounds healed. This is according to Dr. Valentin Yabes in a recent 152nd General Assembly of the Foundation for Upgrading the Standard of Education (FUSE) held at Orient Tower Condominium at Roxas Blvd., Manila Dr. Yabes said the treatment of non-healing wounds of diabetics is a big problem in the country because there are 3.36 million Filipinos who have diabetes. He said the amputation is not only costly but unnecessary because diabetics with wounds can be treated with laser bio-resonance treatment. This is a painless, non-surgical, cost effective medical treatment which produces very attractive results. LASER, the acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation is now used medically for precision surgery.

etc.., etc…, at iba pa..

Marami ng nangyari since my last post.

Maraming problema, kaliwa’t kanan.

Yahoo rejects Microsoft deadline as tech battle intensifies

SAN FRANCISCO – (UPDATE) Yahoo on Monday rejected a three-week deadline from Microsoft to accept a $44.6-billion takeover, as the battle between the two technology titans heated up.

Yahoo however said it was open to a sweetened bid from the software giant or another bidder.

“We continue to believe that your proposal is not in the best interests of Yahoo and our stockholders,” Yahoo’s board chairman Roy Bostock and chief executive Jerry Yang said in a letter to CEO of Microsoft Corporation Steve Ballmer.

“We are open to all alternatives that maximize stockholder value. To be clear, this includes a transaction with Microsoft if it represents a price that fully recognizes the value of Yahoo on a standalone basis,” the Yahoo letter said.

The letter came in response to an ultimatum issued by Microsoft on Saturday for the Internet giant to accept its $44.6-billion takeover offer in three weeks or face a shareholder proxy fight.

Analysts said the battle of the technology giants appeared to be intensifying.

“These dueling quasi-legal missives may not reflect what’s going on actually behind the scenes with the two companies but it appears to show increasing entrenchment and inflexibility on the surface,” said Greg Sterling, analyst at Search Engine Land.

Henry Blodget, an analyst with Silicon Valley Insider, said: “It is imperative to read between the lines. More important than what Yahoo said in its Microsoft response this morning was what it did not say.”

Blodget said the wording “suggests that Yahoo’s institutional shareholders may support Microsoft, not Yahoo.”

In an open letter to the Yahoo board of directors released over the weekend, Microsoft’s Ballmer accused the company of avoiding serious negotiations over its unsolicited February 1 bid and warned that any further delays could result in a less attractive offer for Yahoo.

“We believe now is the time for our respective companies to authorize teams to sit down and negotiate a definitive agreement,” Ballmer said in the letter, which was posted on the Redmond, Washington-based company’s website.

“If we have not concluded an agreement within the next three weeks, we will be compelled to take our case directly to your shareholders, including the initiation of a proxy contest to elect an alternative slate of directors for the Yahoo board.”

Microsoft is betting that by combining with Yahoo, it can gain ground on Google’s overwhelming dominance of the lucrative Internet advertising sector.

Yahoo has steadily lost market share in online advertising, leaving it vulnerable to cash-rich Microsoft’s takeover effort.

On March 18 Yahoo said the company was worth at least $40 share, compared with Microsoft’s original offer of $31 a share. The higher figure would add some $10 billion to the cost of the deal to the buyer.

But Ballmer said in his letter Saturday that the US economic slump and sagging stock market, if anything, had hurt Yahoo’s value.

In addition, he said, “public indicators suggest that Yahoo’s search and page view shares have declined.”

“By any fair measure, the large premium we offered in January is even more significant today. We believe that the majority of your shareholders share this assessment,” he said.

“If we are forced to take an offer directly to your shareholders, that action will have an undesirable impact on the value of your company from our perspective which will be reflected in the terms of our proposal,” the letter said.

Shares in Microsoft fell 0.03 percent to close at $29.16, while Yahoo tumbled 2.4 percent to $27.68.

Parang walang nagbago.

Meron pa tayong kinakaharap ng power and water crisis. Problema dito, problema doon.

Ano kaya ang susunod? 5-10 years from now.

Election 2007

Lately I have seen a lot of politicians in television. It’s election time again and they are doing electoral campaign via the radio, television, internet and other forms such as flyers, pocket calendars and even tarpaulin.

Some have celebrity endorsers for them to be more recognized by people. Showbiz celebrities have also shown their interest in politics. For the past 2 years the presidency of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has been questioned due to cheating. Of course, some of us also doubt if she really won the 2004 elections. That is why the Opposition is pushing for her to be impeached. Going back to Erap, who is under house arrest for plunder, this controversy has launched the so called “EDSA DOS” that resulted for him to leave Malacanang and then Vice President Gloria Arroyo was sworned to presidency. The “GARCI” issue has died since it has not prospered for further interrogation. Opposition leaders are still planning to file for impeachment against GMA. Would this really solve the problem the nation is facing?

The administration ticket on the other hand is not that strong to take the 12-seats in the Senate. They may have programs and platforms for the people and the country as well but it is again the question of execution. Are we again to expect on promises?

Showbiz personalities and even the people’s champ has decided to run for office. As you can see, Cesar Montano and Richard Gomez aiming to be lawmakers while they dont have experience yet. I am not looking down on their capacity to be Senators, but at least they should have started as councilors or mayors. Manny Pacquiao didnt think twice… may be he was influenced by other politicians who want to take advantage of his popularity…

Anyway,so much for that.. I hope that people will now think twice and choose the right ones.

Vote for the RIGHT 12!
